Primary support for the subproject and the subproject’s principal investigator may have been provided by other sources, including other NIH sources. The Total Cost listed for the subproject likely represents the estimated amount of Center infrastructure utilized by the subproject, not direct funding provided by the NCRR grant to the subproject or subproject staff. The major long-term goals of the PRIME Center are to develop and use a set of gene-based in vivo neuroimaging techniques to help elucidate the pathophysiologic mechanisms of, and develop better treatments for, brain disorders. To achieve these goals, we will develop and evaluate new molecular neuroimaging techniques that utilize the parvalbumin (PV) mouse as a model system. PV is a calcium-binding, voltage-dependent protein important for the modulation of synaptic transmission and formation of the inhibitory basket of synapses onto excitatory neurons. We will be developing methods to measure the intrinsic dynamics of PV neurons and use this information to design and test specific hypotheses regarding the function and pathology of PV neurons in vivo.Q:
